Our priorities

If you haven’t already yet, we REALLY encourage you to have a read of our 2022 - 2026 Strategic Plan. Here, you’ll get a pretty good idea of what our vision is for the next four years and how we are going to action this.

We totally get it though. Sometimes we don’t always have the time digest all the information that is in front of us - and all we want is quick snippets of what an organisation is actually all about. So. Here’s the chunk of it.

  • 1.1 To assist in community processes that will meet the needs of people who are suffering from abuses of human rights.

1.2 To educate people living in Australia and globally in the essential purposes of human rights.

1.3 To conduct research into the causes of social injustice and to advocate for actions that will address the problems identified.

1.4 To establish and maintain groups of persons throughout Australia who will actively assist in the furtherance of these objectives.

  • 2.1 Build the capacity of young people through innovative and effective youth development programs.

2.2 Build the skills of young people necessary to guide others and influence opinions and policy.

2.3 Prepare youth leaders to become responsible citizens and contributing members of their communities.

  • 3.1 Effective reach in the general community and young people with relevant and useful information about human rights.

3.2 Public awareness and debate about human rights issues increases through our communications and online presence.

3.3 Develop strong, sustainable and pragmatic relationships with community organisations and other key stakeholders.

3.4 Increased capacity to apply human rights through our education cooperation activities.

3.5 Impact through our submissions to the Australian Government, Australian and international NGOs and the United Nations, on human rights related issues.

  • 4.1 Inspire and empower youth to partake in public advocacy and debates as it relates to human rights.

4.2 Target systemic issues affecting the wellbeing of young people and ensuring their full participation in the decision-making that impacts their lives.

4.2 Increase recognition that young people are experts in their own experience, and their views are essential to solving the challenges for young people and their communities.

  • 5.1 Strengthen the social sense of caring for others for the common good.

5.2 Inspire community solidarity, a sense of belonging and connection using community building initiatives.

5.3 Integrate and connect young people from marginalised backgrounds.

5.4 Work collaboratively to identify and dismantle structural barriers to equality for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

  • 6.1 Work to dismantle barriers that prevent young people and marginalised communities from participating in discussions of human rights and political issues.

6.2 Educate the community on the language and terminology used within the human rights field, to foster a greater understanding of role of governments, national human rights commissions and of the operation of domestic and international law.
