The peacebuilding dialogue

international womens day: more than march

Join us for our International Women’s Day Peacebuilding Dialogue. Our Peacebuilding Dialogue series is where we aim to create safe spaces for young people to come together and listen, learn and unlearn.

Our IWD Peacebuilding Dialogue theme is More Than March. We want to emphasise the importance of valuing women's varying perspectives and addressing their issues all year long.

Breaking the Binary bias

For this Peacebuilding Dialogue Voices of Influence Australia will be having a conversation that highlights non-binary young people; their voices, challenges and dreams for a thriving community.

Our two amazing guests Adam (he/they) and Elinore (she/they) will share their experience as non-binary individuals and their thoughts on the community as a whole.

digital connectivity

In October 2022, our Founder and CEO attended the Geneva Human Rights Platform Annual Conference in Geneva, Switzerland! You heard that right. "ON/OFF: Implications of Digital Connectivity on Human Rights" brought together human rights leaders, academics and defenders from across the world to talk about the human rights implications of digitalisation including increasing connectedness, the digital gap, digital disruptions, surveillance, human rights tracking tools and databases and more. Young people ought to be a huge part of this conversation.

In this Peacebuilding Dialogue our team opened the conversation to other young people. We discussed how much young people know about forced internet shutdowns and a lack of universal internet access in the developing world as well as whether we think our international community has the right framework to deal with these issues.

Here in Australia, we’re seeing data breach after data breach. Media ownership is moving from one billionaire to another. What are we doing about it? How are we feeling about it?

BI-INVISIBILITY

We hosted this dialogue during Bisexual Awareness Week, a week that is an exciting opportunity to celebrate bisexuality and raise awareness of our queer pride. Whether you joined us in person, or are taking the opportunity to watch this now, we open this as an invitation for allies to hear our voices, through storysharing which unlocks deeper understanding of the many stigmas, challenges, joys and (in)visibilities we experience, internally and externally, as bisexual people.

Young people are important voices to contribute to this conversation. We invite you to participate and lead the conversation, with the opportunity to submit questions and have your voices heard and celebrated.

Join VOI in this conversation, as some of our members share personal stories of their learning journeys as bisexuals, exploring their sexuality and invisibility in a world designed and reinforced by the heteronormative statusquo.
